A reminder that schools and offices in the Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) will be closed on Friday, Sept. 30 to recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day.
The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation/Orange Shirt Day opens the door to conversation on all aspects of residential schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the impacts of these institutions and the legacy left behind.
LRSD's Indigenous Education Team has provided staff with a number of resources for those looking to start or supplement their teaching and learning for this day.
Of note for this year, the Indigenous Education Team is offering a weeklong film festival for Grade 7 to 12 students from September 26 to 29. The festival intends to show not only the trauma endured, but also the resiliency, humor and strength of the Indigenous community.
