Local Voices, Local Choices: Education Belongs to Community
In July, the National Trustee Gathering on Indigenous Education and Canadian School Boards Association (CSBA) Congress took place in Saskatoon. The theme, Local Voices, Local Choices: Education Belongs to Community, allowed Sandy Nemeth, Louis Riel School Division Board Vice-Chair, and Lena Kublick, Lord Selkirk School Division Board Chair, to share the stage and tell the journey their respective school boards took in navigating proposed Bill 64; The Education Modernization Act.
More than 200 delegates from across Canada were afforded valuable networking opportunities, professional development and focused learning on various topics related to leadership, governance, and student engagement and success. Among the highlights were keynote addresses from radio and TV journalist Anna Maria Tremonti, Cowessess First Nation Chief Cadmus Delorme, and Olympian Brigette Lacquette. At the same event, Alan Campbell, current Manitoba School Boards Association President and Interlake School Division Board Chair, was elected President of the Canadian School Boards Association.
