Announcing the Retirement of Marc Poirier

The LRSD Board of Trustees accepted the retirement notice for Marc Poirier on March 5, 2024.
After joining us from the Seine River School Division, Marc’s dedication to LRSD spanned 27 years, serving as a bilingual educator and administrator for the past 22 years. Marc's journey with LRSD began on August 25, 1997, as a Grade 9-12 Teacher at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé (CJS), where he taught Computer Science and Multi-Media Courses.
Over the years, Marc took on various leadership roles within the division, including Vice Principal at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé and Collège Béliveau, and Principal at École Marie-Anne-Gaboury and École Sage Creek School for the last seven years.
The École Sage Creek School community has thrived under Marc’s stewardship since its inception. His leadership inspired a school culture where, collectively, they achieved growth, resilience, and academic excellence, despite rapid community growth and necessary school reconfigurations. One of Marc’s guiding philosophies, “Kids don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care,” spread through student life, emphasizing his prioritization of students in the teaching and learning process.
His dedication and passion for education are evident in his numerous leadership contributions. Marc has been a beacon of inspiration, setting a positive example through his leadership. He has encouraged staff to explore new teaching methods, be creative, and reflect on their professional goals. Marc has generously mentored many new teachers and administrators over the course of his career, strengthening the profession.
It is with no surprise that he has been nominated and highly recommended for the “Outstanding School Leader Award” for Manitoba’s Celebration of Excellence in Teaching 2014-2015 and was awarded for “Outstanding Contribution” during his time with his École Marie-Anne-Gaboury school family.
Marc's commitment to community engagement is commendable. He celebrates the success of others and keeps both parents and the community engaged in school activities by supporting Parent Association Committees (PAC), community events and enjoys sharing pictures and videos of these memorable events on social media. His belief in connecting with students, staff, and parents has helped foster a school community based on respect, compassion, and a sense of belonging.
I am grateful for the opportunity to have worked closely with Marc. His impact on LRSD will be felt for years to come. We wish him a joyful retirement filled with relaxation, adventure, and new beginnings. Marc, you will be deeply missed by colleagues, students, and community. Thank you for your enduring contributions to public education.
Thank you for your dedication and service to LRSD.
