  • Collège Jeanne-Sauvé Breaks Ground on Updates and Expansions

On June 21, 2018, Collège Jeanne-Sauvé hosted a sod turning and land blessing to mark the beginning of infrastructure updates that will help address the rapid growth of French Immersion enrollment in LRSD

The updates beginning next week will include a new Student Commons/Performance area with an expanded cafeteria, kitchen and stage; a new entrance and foyer area; renovated General Office and renovated classroom specifically for the Performing Arts. The Commons Area will also be made available for community use in evenings and other occasions.

We are proud to continue our positive and very productive partnership with the City of Winnipeg, as funding for the updates at Collège Jeanne-Sauvé will come from the LRSD School Board and the City of Winnipeg. Of the $3.5 million multi-phased project, $500,000 of the funding will be coming from Councillor Brian Mayes and the City of Winnipeg with the remainder coming from the LRSD School Board.

Currently, over one-third of LRSD students are enrolled in French Immersion. Our projections indicate that number is expected to reach up to 40% in the near future. This June, 248 students will move from kindergarten and begin their journey towards CJS, while in contrast, this June, 130 students will celebrate their graduation from the high school!

These updates to CJS will help accommodate that growth and provide our students with the best possible learning environment.

Stay tuned for more updates on the infrastructure developments at CJS!
