Louis Riel School Division prides itself on being on the cutting edge of technology in schools. As of 2014, all 40 of our schools have wireless networks for mobile devices. LRSD is beginning the process of investigating how best these wireless devices can have impact on student learning. Students bringing their own personal devices is one use of this wireless network.
We also use technology in our communication to parents and students. All our schools, along with the Division, use Twitter to send updates and news we think will be of interest to you. Our Divisional Facebook page hosts events, photography and examples of student work.
We also pride ourselves on cultivating a safe Internet environment. Our IT Acceptable Use & Safety highlights how we keep a technology-filled environment safe and productive for students.
IT Acceptable Use & Safety
The Internet is a valuable resource for students, and students need to know how to use the Internet effectively and safely. To support students and teachers in their use of this important learning medium, the Louis Riel School Division requires each student to follow simple usage guides when accessing computer systems in the Division. The Louis Riel School Division's Internet and Systems Use policy contains the guidelines.
The Division believes that working with parents is critical to provide a safe learning environment for students in our schools, especially when using the Internet. All students in the Division are bound by the Internet and Systems Use policy and are required, with their parents, to sign an Internet and Systems User Agreement, in Kindergarten, Grade 4, and again in Senior 1.
Teachers explain the forms and policy to students at the beginning of each school year; these remain valid until the end of the Agreement.
The Division commits to education about appropriate Internet and systems use, as student safety and well-being are paramount. Schools' efforts to provide safe learning environments benefit from parents' assistance through monitoring their children's computer use at home.
