Indigenous Education

aboriginal-ed.jpgThe Indigenous Education Department works with schools and the community to promote Indigenous student success and to integrate Indigenous perspectives into curricula.

In 2016 we were proud to welcome Frank Deer and Elder Jules Lavallee to our team as our Scholar in Residence and Elder in Residence, respectively.

Our Indigenous Education centre moved to Marion School in 2016 as well, providing a new space to facilitate our growing department and everything it has to offer.

This department serves many aspects of our community. Below is a list of some of the programs and activities.

Indigenous Enrichment Program & Interactive Learning Centre

  • Grade 4-6 students visit our Interactive Learning Center for a half-day of enriched programming tied to the social studies curricular outcomes.

Treaty Education Initiative

  • The goal of the Treaty Education Initiative is to educate all students in Manitoba on the topics and concepts of Treaties and the Treaty Relationship.

ECHO

  • A program designed to support student transition to high school , ECHO provides students with rich, Indigenous perspectives to help through this transitional period.

While the sun may be shining today, it looks like there's nothing but rain in the forecast for tomorrow. 🌧️☂️ That means the Folk Dance in the Park scheduled for Wednesday, May 22 will be rescheduled for Friday, May 24th.

Meet Randi. She's one of the seven members of the Oyoyocik Student Leadership Group who travelled to an archipelago called Haida Gwaii in BC. They laughed, they learned, they discovered culture and they discovered themselves. Check out the trip blog: http://ow.ly/WLSZ50ubUSr
