Welcoming Our Division Elder in Residence

October 12, 2016

We are pleased to welcome Elder Jules Lavallee to the LRSD team as Elder in Residence.

Jules Lavallee was born in St. Laurent, Manitoba. Raised with a Métis lifestyle, Jules grew up fishing, hunting and trapping while his family taught him an appreciation of the rich and beautiful way of Métis life. Jules learned the importance of culture from a young age, recognizing and understanding the influence of language, foods and customs.

Elders from different nations including Dakota (Sioux), Cree, Ojibway and more provided Jules with teachings over many years. Jules has dedicated thirty years to learning traditional practices and implementing them in the workshops and sessions. He is a pipe carrier and sweat lodge conductor.

Jules will be working with students and staff throughout the division. He has a heart for working with young people and sharing Indigenous culture.

Please join us in giving Jules Lavallee, our Elder in Residence, a warm LRSD welcome!
