Earlier this week, we sent out a school registration questionnaire to parents/guardians asking for details of their plans for their children in the fall to help finalize our floorplans and classroom assignments.
In the Louis Riel School Division, we have successfully redesigned the spaces in our schools and achieved 2 metres (six feet) of physical distancing for all staff and students in K-12 while in learning spaces. To achieve proper physical distancing, minimal relocation was required of staff and students from schools that have high occupancy to nearby schools that have low occupancy. We understand that this relocation will be an inconvenience to some families, so many variables were considered throughout the process of arriving at a solution, including age, transportation, programming, proximity to the satellite location, and student autonomy.
All families and staff that have been affected by this proposed relocation have been notified. We are now listening to any and all concerns of affected families and staff. If you have a question or concern regarding the relocation of your child, please reach out to your school’s principal.
- 69 grade 7 and 8 students from École Varennes are moving to Windsor School.
- 54 grade 6 students from École George-McDowell are moving to École Julie-Riel
- 107 grade 5 and 6 students from École Sage Creek School are moving to Shamrock School.
- 66 grade 7 and 8 students from École Van Belleghem are moving to Island Lakes Community School.
Affected students and staff will be temporarily relocated during the pandemic to these satellite school communities. These student and staff communities will remain connected to and served by their homeschool administrative teams.
Final classroom placements and configurations will be communicated by September 4.
Our overarching goal continues to be to work with staff, students, and families to co-create safe and healthy pathways so we can all have a successful 2020-2021 school year.
