To our Louis Riel School Division community.
Two days ago, on Thursday, April 2, we as a division, received very sad news. We were informed one of our employees had passed away. We were aware the individual had come forward to the principal at Windsor Park Collegiate on Wednesday, March 18, to inform her about feeling unwell. The principal told the individual to go home and rest and, out of an abundance of caution, was asked to contact
Manitoba Health Links. We continued to be in communication with the family as he did not return to the school.
Since hearing the news of his passing, we have offered our deepest condolences to the family as well as offering support to them during this difficult time.
We shared the news of his passing with the Windsor Park Collegiate staff on Thursday and were preparing a letter to share with the school community this weekend. Out of respect for the family and to adhere to privacy protocols and legislation, we don't comment on the personal health information of staff or students.
As a division, we have been in constant contact with Manitoba Education and Public Health officials to ensure we are following all their directions, protocols and recommendations.
Currently, we do not have confirmed details from Manitoba Public Health authorities on the cause of this employee's passing. If there were any additional steps or recommendations to ensure the continued safety of our staff, students and parents/guardians, Manitoba Public Health would provide us with those processes. I can assure you they have not been in touch with us regarding any additional steps.
If we do receive any additional information that can be shared, I will be in touch with the community.
At any point, if you have any personal health concerns, I urge you to contact
Manitoba Health Links.
I know these are difficult and trying times, and I'd like to thank you for your resilience and spirit of cooperation. I would like to remind all students, staff and parents/guardians in LRSD that support services are available and can be accessed by getting in touch with the principal of your child's school.
Thank you,
Christian Michalik, Superintendent
