A Deeper Dive into the Learning from Home School

The Louis Riel School Division (LRSD) Learning from Home School (LFHS)/L'École Apprendre-chez-soi is a robust and fully staffed school with programming in both English and French Immersion. In previous stories, we’ve explained how we created the LFHS during a pandemic and gave a few sneak peeks into what learning and teaching looks like for students and staff.  

Our next set of videos highlight more of the collaboration, community building and classroom culture within the LFHS.   


Industrial Arts 

In the absence of traditional “hands-on” activities, Matt Colpitts, Industrial Arts Teacher for grade 5-8, developed a curriculum focused on digital media to teach students technical skills.

Grade 6 

Thaddeus Bourassa, Grade 6 teacher and member of LRSD’s Learning Team, touches on the importance of feedback, flexible schedules and student choice and voice.

Grade 7 

Warren Hart, Grade 7 teacher and member of LRSD’s Learning Team, demonstrates a fun Mystery Skype lesson and discusses some of the benefits of learning from home.

French Immersion  

Learning a second language through a screen can be a challenge, but Carole Bonin, Grade 2 teacher and Consultant Additional Languages Programs, is helping students become confident and competent in French at L'École Apprendre-chez-soi.
