What's Happening?Time is valuable, and keeping track of school events and activities can be challenging. What's Happening? is a quick-reference tool that provides information about developments that affect students, parents, staff and the school community. How many students participated in the Grade 7 basketball tournament? When and where is the workshop about Internet safety occurring? How do I sign up to volunteer at my child’s school? Visit monthly to learn more about the school’s upcoming events. What's happening in February?Festival du VoyageurFebruary is a special time in Manitoba French Immersion schools, as students celebrate French culture. Festival du Voyageur week will be packed with activities including bannock-making, a Festival sing-a-long, and a day of traditional crafts and sports. Of course, Festival du Voyageur week would not be complete without our traditional Déjeuner aux crêpes. You are invited to join us on February 17 between 6:30 and 8:30 a.m. Please submit your order form by February 5. While the school is not planning a formal outing to the Festival this year, families are encouraged to enjoy this experience together, perhaps as a way of marking Louis Riel Day. Mini-OlympicsFebruary also marks the opening of the Olympic games in Vancouver. Students at École Varennes will celebrate with their own Mini-Olympics, with our Opening Ceremonies taking place the morning of February 12. During Mini-Olympics, guest speakers will attend the school to demonstrate various Olympic sports to our students. Each class will also research a country and prepare a display. Students, with passport in hand, will tour the various classrooms, effectively travelling around world. Each morning, a different national anthem will be featured and Olympic-related trivia questions will be included as part of the announcements. Many other activities are planned. Kindergarten Information EveningWith a look ahead to next year, we encourage you all to spread the word about our wonderful school and ask that you let others know the value of joining the École Varennes family.
