Overview of December Activities at WindsorWindsor School students have been involved in many campaigns to support our school, local, and global communities as part of our Windsor School Plan goals to promote active citizenship, improved student engagement and our year-long theme of Kindness: Windsor at the Heart of our Community. Students have organised many fundraising events already this year: Hat Day for both the United Way and the Philippines relief fund, Halloween for Hunger and the Terry Fox Walk to name but a few. Our students continue to be active citizens who take up causes close to their hearts. However, we recognise that for families, supporting this number of causes may pose difficulties. There are several events happening in December and so we would like to provide you with a list and invite you to make proactive choices regarding which campaigns you are able or willing to support. We understand that there are many demands on time and funds at this time of year and your donations to one or more of the following, if possible, would be most appreciated (organisers shown in parenthesis):
Koats for Kids until December 6 (Priddle/Loney grade 7/8): You are invited to bring in your no-longer needed gently used outerwear for distribution to Winnipeg families in need of warm outer clothing.
Mitten Tree until December 19 (Koats for Kids, Student Voice): We will also have a tree set up for donations of gently used or new hats, scarves and gloves.
Pennies from LRSD from December 9-13 (Walker & students)– proceeds to the Christmas Cheer Board: A coin collection will take place all week and students/ parents are invited to contribute – no amount is too small.
Bake Sale (Pennies from LRSD Kickoff) December 10 at lunch: There will be a bake sale to support Pennies from LRSD in the Taunton Room canteen. Students and parents are invited to donate baking (please complete and return the form below to help with planning; baking should be dropped off in room 8 on December 10).
Holiday Bazaar from December 9-13 (Grade 3/ 4): Students in Kindergarten and grades 1 & 2 will have the opportunity to purchase up to four gifts for family members for a toonie. Donations of items which would make suitable small gifts will be appreciated – please contact Mrs. Robin if you require further information. Grade 3/ 4 students will wrap the gifts and count the money as a math activity. Students will decide which charity will receive the proceeds at a later date; past donations were made to the Children’s Hospital and the Windsor Inclusive Play Structure.
Winter Concert - Wednesday, December 18 (Ms Braun): Kindergarten to grade 6 students will be having their annual Winter Concert. Every student from Kindergarten to Grade 6 is participating in this concert. Dress rehearsal will be Wednesday morning at 10:00 a.m. and is open to family members and friends. Evening concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. Students are asked to be in their classrooms at 6:30 p.m. Doors to the gym will be open at 6:30 p.m. We look forward to seeing you there! There will be a Silver collection/ food donation (Student Voice) for Winnipeg Harvest at the door.
Thank you for your continued support,
