World of Work
Description
The World of Work (WOW) program is a school-based program which includes both in-school study and out-of-school work experience. In general, the WOW Program aims to develop in students those skills and attitudes which enable them to become effective, responsible adults and competitive employees.
Goals
The three main goals of the WOW Program are: 1) Academic Development 2) Job Exploration 3) Personal Development
Entry
Students who are recommended by Student Services or WPC staff are eligible for this program. These students would be entering Gr. 10 or 11. Additionally, this program is for students who are not intending to proceed to academic post-secondary training but who are planning on entering the work force after high school or pursuing further training.
Schedule
All of the core subjects are taught on a year-round basis with classes being 36 minutes in duration as opposed to 72 minutes. The core subjects are taught within the WOW guidelines, while students can sign up for options which are in the regular program. Attendance at school and at the work sites is crucial in meeting the course requirements so that credits can be earned. Students will need 28 credits for graduation.
