Principal's Bulletin
Wednesday April 30, 2008Principal's Bulletin for May - École VarennesPrincipal's Bulletin - MAY 2008
April has gone by in a flash. Since returning from the spring break, our students have been involved in numerous events at the school and even some activities outside the school. Our most notable assembly this month was a presentation by Ted Longbottom who came to help us celebrate the history of the Métis people in Manitoba. Ted will be returning in a few weeks to give a presentation to parents. Our Student Council (with Madame DeCruyenaere) also held an assembly recently to launch “Coinspiracy”, which is a special project we are undertaking to promote positive relations and citizenship in the school. Ask your kids for details about this novel idea.
We are also very pleased to announce that Madame DeCruyenaere has recently been appointed Vice-Principal of École Varennes for the 2008-09 school year. Congratulations Madame!
May will fly by even faster than April. Our kindergarten to Grade 3 students have been working on a new recording of O Canada for use during the morning announcements, and our Grade 4 to 6 choir will be doing the same thing this month. A reduced version of the opera “The Barber of Seville” will be presented to the students on May 12 in the morning. As usual, all parents are invited to attend. Please call the school at 253-1375 for more details. We have begun “Science en folie” (Mad Science) as an after-school activity for our students, and we were amazed to have over 80 students enrolled. Our Grade 5 students will attend a Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra concert on May 15, and we will also participate in ‘Dance in the Park” and the first of our Divisional Track and Field events. The spring Band Concert will take place on May 17 at the Louis Riel Arts and Technology Centre, and we will have our “Turn it off and Move” challenge the first three weeks of May. There will not be much time left for boredom.
As the spring sports season begins, with lots of practices for soccer, baseball and other sports, please take the time to remind your sons and daughters of the importance of continuing to give attention to their school work. This is the time of year when we need to work hard at reinforcing the knowledge and skills our students have acquired this year. Thanks for your continued support of École Varennes!
