Students Working Together

At St. George School we believe it is imperative to teach students the skills necessary to become good citizens of our community. We have organized the year to reflect values which we feel will help support the teaching and learning of these important skills. In September and October we have fo-cused our teaching on teaching students to demonstrate understanding of diversity and tolerance. Throughout the six weeks many learning opportunities have occurred to support students in their un-derstanding of these values. We celebrated our theme with a Thanksgiving lunch which was enjoyed by all students and staff in our school. At that time many students presented a variety of ways in which their classes have been studying about diversity and tolerance. Our November theme will involve teaching around the concepts of peace and unity and will culminate in our Remembrance Day memorial assembly in the gymnasium.
Teachers and students are also working towards our upcoming Student Led Portfolio Conferences which will be held during the afternoon and evening of November 19th. Report cards will be sent home on Friday November 14th. Parents will have the opportunity to make appointments and spend time with their child and his or her teacher talking about the learning goals for their child. It is very important that parents attend the conferences so they are getting an up to date account of how their child is managing school not only academically but socially and emotionally. At school we spend time with children on all areas of their development stressing the important components of academics, behaviour, community connections as well as appropriate socialization. Staff look forward to spending time with you and your child and sharing the many exciting learning outcomes in which students are involved.
