Principal's Bulletin
Wednesday April 9, 2008Register With MedicAlert for Free The Canadian MedicAlert Foundation has developed a free program, called No Child Without, to protect children living with chronic medical conditions, allergies or special needs. The program was developed to ensure children across Canada from Kindergarten up to their 14th birthday receive MedicAlert protection at no cost to the parent, school, or Board of Education. The No Child Without program is fully funded by the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation in partnership with the Lions Clubs of Canada, the Government of Canada, and donations by individuals, local businesses and corporations. Every child in the Louis Riel School Division is eligible for this program.
Recently, a No Child Without bar-coded brochure specific to our school was sent home with each student. Hopefully, parents have had a chance to review the brochure and have taken the time to decide if they wish to have their children participate in the program. If you have not done so, you may still register and take advantage of this offer by following the directions on the pamphlet that was sent home. If your child is already a member, contact MedicAlert to see if you should transfer your child to the No Child Without program.
Upon registering for the program, students will have a choice of pre-selected identification products listing their medical conditions and membership number. You will receive a wallet card with all of the member’s information (this can used as an information card for parents.) You will have access to the 24 Hour Emergency Hotline, notification of personal emergency contact at the time of an emergency, and a follow-up with parents after the emergency call has been made to the Hotline. Should your child move to another school in Canada, they are still protected under this national program.
We encourage you to visit www.nochildwithout.ca to learn more about the program. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school. All students with a medical condition should take advantage of this free offer.
