What's Happening?
Time is valuable, and keeping track of school events and activities can be challenging. What's Happening? is a quick-reference tool that provides information about developments that affect students, parents, staff and the school community.
How many students participated in the Grade 7 basketball tournament? When and where is the workshop about Internet safety occurring? How do I sign up to volunteer at my child’s school?
Visit monthly to learn more about the school’s upcoming events.
What's happening in May?NEWS UPDATE
Well it looks like we’ve gotten through the harshest of the winter and it feels like spring in the air. These are the same words that I used in the March Paw Print Update…and look at the snow that’s happened since. Let’s hope that this is truly spring now. Here’s a recap on some of the events of the past few weeks and a look at what’s to come.
Seniors' Day
On Tuesday, May 6, Dr. Penner hosted our annual Seniors' Day event. It was a huge success with students and grandparents and seniors coming together to laugh and sing and learn. We started the morning with an assembly which featured a movie done by Mrs. Bunkowsky’s class, a presentation by the Grade 2 students, the choir and a great “Utensil” dance conducted by Mrs. Peacock. After some light refreshments our guests were invited into classrooms where they worked alongside the students.
Talent Show
On Friday, May 2, the students performed in the annual Celebrate Your Talents assembly. We had over 25 acts ranging from baton to piano, from comedy to magic with a lot of great performances. Thanks to all the parents who came out to support the students. If anyone has any still photos of the event, we encourage you to contact the office.
Chess Tournament
On April 24, nine Dr. Penner students participated in the St. George Chess tournament. They played well and had a great time. The chess club has wound up for the year and we would like to thank Mrs. Bunkowsky and Ms. MacDonald for all their help in organizing and supervising the chess club.
Kindergarten Registration
Currently we have 14 students enrolled in Kindergarten. If you know of any neighbours that have not yet enrolled please have them phone the school at 256-1135.
Spring Fling
This is a reminder that Spring Fling is right around the corner. This is a family event hosted by the Penner Parent Association. It will be held on Thursday. May 22, with the rain date being Friday, May 30. Students have brought home order forms for the hot dog meals and parents are encouraged to volunteer. We will begin at 4:30 p.m. Activities include face painting, a cakewalk game, and clown and craft activities. From 5:30-6:30, Mrs. Peacock has organized a family Bicycle Bingo. Families are encouraged to walk, jog, cycle or rollerblade through the community to try to fill a bingo card. Families will be asked to place a card in their front window or door and we will be scouring the community for that full house. The order forms for the Spring Fling are due Wednesday, May 14.
