Principal's Bulletin
Thursday June 26, 2008Paw Print Update - June 2008Dear Parents and Community Members;
The time has come the walrus said,
To speak of many things….
I’m quite sure that when the Carpenter said those words to the Walrus on the beach in Alice in Wonderland, that he was reminiscing about a great school year gone by. Here at Penner it was an outstanding year! We learned from each other, we took risks and tried new things and we came together as a strong learning community.
The end of any school year comes filled with joy and sadness. We are filled with happiness about the new experiences and opportunities and sadness for the loss of so many truly exceptional people.
I begin by saying farewell to the 20 Grade 6 students who make their way on to new learning challenges in Grade 7. Whether it be Darwin, Minnetonka or George McDowell the foundation of respect and caring
that was laid at Dr. D.W.Penner will serve you well. We wish you all the best!. To the other students who are moving on to new schools, we will miss you and good luck.
Our warmest wishes also to Mrs. Deschouwer and Mr. Klachefsky. Thank you for all the care and dedication that you have given to the students of Penner. We were blessed this year to have Mr. Dan DeBaets work in our student services team. His quiet and caring ways helped to support the learning of our middle years students. All the best Mr. DeBaets in your 3rd try at retirement.
Looking forward to next year we welcome 16 new Kindergarten folk. We know that this will be an exciting time for them. Joining them on their journey in the land of sand tables and crayons will be Mrs. Krista Bracken. We welcome Krista back as part of the Penner community of learners. We know that under her guidance the Kindergartens will soar to new heights of learning.
School reopens with Opening Day conferences on September 2nd and 3rd. You will receive your appointment time with your child’s report card on June 26th. The first day of regular classes is Thursday, September 4th.
The staff of Dr. D.W. Penner would like to extend our best wishes to all
of you for a safe and enjoyable summer.

Lunch Program Supervisors
Needed for 2008 – 09
Dr. Penner Lunch Program consists of three Lunchrooms which consist of students from grades
1 - 6. We currently have one full-time and 3 parttime Lunch Supervisors. We are looking for
additional Lunch Supervisors starting in September.
The Lunchroom Supervisors work from 11:40 to 12:45. The rate of pay is $16.89 per day.
It is a great opportunity to get involved in the School while earning extra income, with a very
flexible schedule. Even if you are available on a casual basis, spares are always welcome.
If you have any questions, please feel free to call Sharon Cliteur at 255-3557 at anytime. I’d
be more than happy to discuss the Lunch Program positions with you.
Evacuation Drill
We will be having an evacuation drill on Wednesday, June 25th at 11:00. This coincides with
our “Walking Wednesdays.” Our evacuation spot is Sterling Mennonite Fellowship Church, 1008
Dakota Street. We would evacuate to this spot in the case of a fire or other emergency. Parents are
invited to join us on the walk.
A reminder that we have early dismissal this coming Friday at 2:15.
