Student Services
The Nordale School Student Services Support Team includes our school administrator, a full-time resource teacher, a half-time guidance counsellor, classroom teachers and the Clinical Services Unit (CSU). The team assists in the implementation of student inclusion and the planning, development and monitoring of Individual Education Plans (IEP) for students in all aspects of their learning.
Resource Program
The resource program is a support network to help teachers to maximize the learning potential of all children in the school system. It provides teachers and parents with child development expertise to assist them in optimizing the development of the children in their care. Members of the resource program respond to the diversity and ever-changing needs of the children. Individual differences are supported, respected and developed to promote self-determination and interdependence.
Guidance Counselling Program
Nordale School’s guidance and counselling program is proactive. It strives to sequentially build skills for each student’s developmental stage, and seeks to develop positive student attitudes towards self, family and the community. Our goal is to facilitate the acquisition of valuable life skills including conflict resolution and decision making. The School Counsellor consults with parents and collaborates with teachers to assist students in all facets of their learning.
This team of specialists, consisting of a speech and hearing pathologist, a social worker, a psychologist, a psychiatrist, an occupational therapist and physiotherapist, is part of the student services of the School Division. These specialists are available to parents, students and teaching staff. School staff will contact them after consulting with parents.
Reading Recovery
Nordale offers a program designed to assist students in Grade 1 who are experiencing difficulties in the acquisition of reading skills. Students work one-on-one with the Reading Recovery specialist on a daily basis.
