Activities

Chess Club

The Chess Club meets once per cycle between the months of November and March. The club’s two groups play each other in the library after lunch.

Freeze Frame

Students interested in video production are encouraged to participate in this exciting program. Student work is submitted to the International Festival of Film for Kids of All Ages in March.

Intramurals

The intramural program allows students in Grades 6 – 8 to develop their leadership skills.

  • The intramural program (Grades 3 – 6) provides a once-per-cycle opportunity for students to participate in various activities.
  • The intramural program (Grades 7 & 8) is offered every second cycle.

Interscholastic Sports

An interscholastic league for basketball and volleyball are offered to Grade 7 and 8 students. Participation in this league depends on the availability of volunteer coaches. Badminton, team handball and cross-country are offered on a rotating basis.

Leadership Senate

Students in Grades 5 – 8 are invited to participate in five different councils to create an active voice in the promotion of Niakwa Place School. The Leadership Senate consists of five different councils, each with its own mandate and responsibilities.

  • Social Council – The School Spirit Council’s mandate is to promote positive, healthy school spirit and pride.
  • Service Council – The Service Council’s mandate is to promote activities that do good both in our local and global communities.
  • Environmental Council – The Environmental Council’s mandate is to promote awareness of a clean and reusable environment.
  • Student Voice – The Council on Student Voice is the group of students who publish the student-created, middle years newspaper—The Pebble Beach Press.
  • Athletic Council – The Athletic Council will be responsible for any leadership activities that happen in the gym or with the Physical Education program.
