International Student Program

The International Student Program housed out of Nelson McIntyre Collegiate is now 20 years strong, and provides quality education for international students year after year. The community also benefits, as local students and home-stay families learn more about the world beyond our borders.

About the Program

Nelson McIntyre Collegiate offers a broad range of courses from Senior 1 (grade 9) to Senior 4 (grade 12):

  • Sciences: General Science, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
  • Mathematics: Pre-Calculus, Applied and Consumer Mathematics and Calculus
  • English: additional English support class
  • Options: Music and Family Studies

Nelson McIntyre Collegiate recognizes the need for international student support. Full-time on-site Coordinator Suzanne Muller will:

  • prepare immigration papers
  • arrange medial insurance coverage
  • coordinate home-stay (if required)
  • provide information package
  • greet students on arrival at the airport
  • organize registration at Nelson McIntyre Collegiate
  • introduce students to teachers, counsellors and principals
  • counsel students on course selection

How to Apply

Step 1

Complete the Student Application Form and the Home-Stay Application Form if required.

Compile the following and include with your application:

  • original transcripts of the last two school years
  • a letter of recommendation from the previous principal or school official
  • a current photograph
  • a photocopy of your passport
  • a non-refundable application fee of $100 Cdn payable to Nelson McIntyre Collegiate

Home Stay

Home-stay families can provide excellent opportunities for international students to immerse themselves in Canadian culture and the English language. Students can expect:

  • a private room in a secure home environment
  • a home-stay family dedicated to providing support and a friendly atmosphere

All home-stay families are personally selected, inspected and approved by the International Student Program Coordinator. They are subject to a Criminal Record Check and Child Abuse Registry Check, and must live within 20 minutes of the school.
