What's Happening?
Time is valuable, and keeping track of school events and activities can be challenging. What's Happening? is a quick-reference tool that provides information about developments that affect students, parents, staff and the school community.
How many students participated in the Grade 7 basketball tournament? When and where is the workshop about Internet safety occurring? How do I sign up to volunteer at my child’s school?
Visit monthly to learn more about the school’s upcoming events. What's happening in October? The Breakfast Club
The Breakfast Club will begin on October 27, 2008 and is open to all students in Kindergarten to Grade 8.
It sometimes happens that children (and adults, too) start their day without a good meal. The reasons for this may include getting up too late, being busy with work, not being ready to eat, or a shortage of breakfast foods. The Breakfast Club might be the answer. Research shows that students who have had breakfast are better able to focus in class thereby making it easier to learn.
The menu includes a glass of pure orange or apple juice, a bowl of cereal with milk, yogurt or cheese, and plain toast with jam, or Cheez Whiz. Sometimes there will be special breakfasts—pancakes, French toast, muffins, ham, etc. Sometimes we are able to provide fresh fruit.
It costs the school about a dollar per child per day to offer this program. Every month, we will send an unmarked envelope home for you to return with a contribution you could make. All donations (money or food) are gratefully accepted.
If you would like your child to join the program either every day, once a week, or whenever needed, please fill out the attached registration form(s) (one for each child) and return it to the school. We need to know about food allergies and restrictions if any.
The Breakfast Club operates as part of the Marion School Social Learning Project and, as such, will run from 9:00 a.m. to 9:45 a.m., Monday to Friday. Students will be grouped and assigned specific eating times. During Breakfast Club, students will be expected to act respectfully, obey the rules and be a role model for appropriate behaviour. Students who are unable to meet these expectations will not be permitted to attend the Breakfast Club.
We cannot run the program alone. Volunteers are needed at 8:30 a.m. to help make toast, prepare the cereal and juice for students, supervise, and clean up afterwards. Students are served breakfast restaurant style!
