Guidance Support
The Counselling Department is based on a self-referral model that is available to all students. Individuals may also be referred by parents, administration/staff, and concerned friends.
Students can expect the following services from the school counsellors:
1. Educational Planning
The counsellor will assist students in areas of high school course selection, secondary school alternatives, and post-secondary planning.
2. Personal Counselling
Students can be assured that problems of any nature may be discussed in a caring and private atmosphere. The Guidance Department has access to many community resources; one being the Divisional Student Support Team, which includes social work, speech and hearing, as well as mental health intervention/support services.
3. Career Exploration
Students can investigate future career possibilities and/or training with the counsellors.
Listed below are additional functions of the school counsellor:
Assisting orientation and information programs which will facilitate smoother transitioning for students and their parents who will attend this school.

Working with teachers, parents and school administration.

Working with outside social agencies, such as Child and Family Services, Public Health, Probation Services and the Addictions Foundation of Manitoba.

Arranging tours and information sessions with other schools, colleges and universities.

Coordinating plans related to student conferences, student employment, and leadership opportunities outside of the school.

Organizing informational services available through the guidance/counselling area.

Operating short-term groups and/or teaching courses for students based on a recognized special school need, example: study skills, bullying, separation and divorce, anger management and assertiveness training.

Writing letters of reference

Coordinating special programs, i.e. Natural Helpers, Alternative Education.
