Wednesday November 4, 2009Mid Term Report to the Community
Our 1st semester is well underway! Students, educational assistants and teachers are continuing the process of building positive relationships and working hard at meeting the outcomes in all courses. Interim reports were distributed early in October to all Grade 9 students and to those Grades 10 – 12 students whom teachers felt needed to focus on certain aspects of their learning.
There are many activities in full swing at J.H. Bruns. The Cross-Country and Golf teams have just completed their season, and volleyball is well under way. The volleyball teams for all grades are competing in both league and tournament play. The schedule of league games is posted on the Physical Education page of the J.H. Bruns website. Come out and support the Broncos!
Our performing arts students are gearing up for musicals, choral celebrations, and winter concerts. Please check our website often for the announcements and dates of these special J.H. Bruns celebrations!
This semester, students from our many student-led groups and organizations met to share the missions and visions of their respective groups. The “Bruns All Committee Collective” (BACC) was formed to allow student groups to collaborate and network, and to provide an organizational structure for the many student activities happening at J. H. Bruns. BACC represents the citizenship process that is encouraged in the “way we do business at Bruns”. The Student Council, S.H.O.W (Students Helping Our World), E.S.P. (Environmental Stewardship Program), Rachel’s Challenge, Anime Club, Electronics Club, Sports Council, and other groups are meeting on a regular basis, contributing to the life of our school.
The mid-term Student Progress Reports , mailed out the week of November 9th , are one component of the assessment process. When reviewing the mid-term progress reports please pay attention to two important components of the report. The “Personal and Social Development” comments indicate behaviours that affect student learning, and the “Learning Progress and Achievement” comments discuss student abilities and provide recommendations to improve student learning. Our teachers look forward to meeting with you to discuss your child’s academic progress at our parent-teacher interviews on November 26 from 4:15 – 9:00 p.m. See you there!
