Mission

École Howden is a French Immersion school committed to providing all children with a quality education in both official languages within a nurturing and respectful environment.

History

École Howden's name pays tribute to The Honourable J. P. Howden, MD, Senator of Canada. Originally an English language school built in 1965, École Howden became a centre for French Immersion learning in 1979. There were 197 students registered in its inaugural year. The school continued to flourish and was exceeding capacity by 1982 with 417 students.

École Howden has had a very dynamic Parent Advisory Council. In addition to its role as a consultative body for the administration, the council works diligently to plan community activities for the school population such as the Christmas Store, the Scholastic Book Fair and the year-end community BBQ. They've also coordinated the school's fundraising efforts which help provide the school with additional funds for student activities, outings and materials. During the 1997-98 school year, the Council carried out a special project in collaboration with Take Pride, Winnipeg, Hospitality Corporation of Manitoba Inc., owners of Windsor Park Inn and Northern Paint to beautify the previously graffiti-covered outside wall of Windsor Park Inn which faces the school grounds.

The École Howden community has strived to provide a safe and secure place for their children's education.
