Fact Sheet

At Highbury School, learning is a natural lifelong process, and the school must provide a safe, inviting atmosphere in which this can happen.

We believe that learning is most meaningful when it is based on experience.

We believe students learn best when they have a positive self-image and when they see themselves as competent and responsible decision-makers.

We believe students need to develop skills in co-operation, creative problem solving, inquiry and discovery.

We believe students need to be aware of global and environmental issues and capable of using current technology.

We believe that students need to establish goals for their growth in collaboration with parents or guardians and teachers as they develop intellectually, physically, socially and emotionally.

We believe that students need to experience the joy of learning in addition to the hard work.

We believe that teachers serve as role models in a community of learners. They are caring, accepting and open-minded people who promote an enthusiasm for learning.

We believe that teachers need to encourage the development of students’ language and thinking skills by nurturing each child’s individual gifts.
