Programs & Services

The regular academic program is based on the Manitoba Education curriculum guidelines. These guidelines are adapted by the Louis Riel School Division to meet the unique needs of the École Guyot community.

Our philosophy for the Early Years component (Kindergarten to Grade 4) is that young children learn by doing. The Early Years program at École Guyot is based on the theory that learning occurs through exploration and discovery. Knowledge is acquired through meaningful interactions with people and hands-on experiences with objects. As children mature, they develop skills and strategies that facilitate the learning process. During the Middle Years (Grades 5 and 6), there is a gradual shift in children’s cognitive abilities. This shift from concrete to abstract thinking is fostered through conversations and hands-on operations that strengthen children’s ability to communicate, to reason, and to solve problems.

Teachers and support staff carefully plan the integration of technology with information processing and problem-solving. Students use computers in the classroom, in the technology laboratory, and in the library. This has become an integral part of the learning process.
