World of Work (WOW) Program

Glenlawn's World of Work (WOW) Program offers students a World of Work Diploma in conjunction with a regular High School Diploma. It combines adapted general credits with a strong focus on the development of employability skills. Students in this program graduate with 28 credits from Grade 9 to Grade 12. Smaller class sizes and a specific team of teachers help to foster an environment of success for the students.

In addition to taking their academic courses, students enrolled in this program are expected to work independently at work sites, three times per year, for a period of three weeks each time.

Students in Grade 10 are encouraged to explore three different career paths, while students in Grades 11 & 12 may pursue the same line of work and may go to the same worksite several times. This enables students to receive specific job skills, and often leads to part-time employment. Students in Grades 11 & 12 who have completed Grade 10 credits can enrol in courses offered at Winnipeg Technical College and can also enter an apprenticeship program.

The majority of WOW graduates go directly into the work force. Some have continued their education in Cooperative Vocational Programs and at Winnipeg Technical College. Many graduates have progressed to take programs at Red River College or have entered apprenticeship programs.

Entrance in the Glenlawn WOW Program usually occurs upon the recommendation of Grade 9 teachers.
