Exciting Community News !

One of the recurring themes at Frontenac this school year, is a focus on the importance of the “connection” between the school and the community, and how all of the adults in the life of a growing child, can benefit that child in so many healthy and positive ways.

Both our school staff and Parent Advisory Council have identified a number of events, activities and strategies that they hope to use to provide opportunities for families to enjoy time together, and to try and enhance the relationship between home and school.

Last month’s very successful community “Walk-a-thon”, where almost 500 community members participated in a physically healthy activity, while helping the school, was one such event. Another, the PAC organized family bowling night, was also a well attended, affordable and fun evening for families.

Of particular importance, in terms of impact on the development of every child, are the early years of life. Ironically, as parents, we are all “beginners” in terms of being parents, at the time when it is likely the most critical to “do the right things” to help our children begin their growth, socially, emotionally, and cognitively. With that important time and role in mind, we are very excited and pleased to announce the beginning of a brand new support to the parents of young children, in the Frontenac community!

On November 20th, we are pleased to inform you that in conjunction with Universal Children’s Day, and the first evening of our school’s portfolio conferences, Frontenac’s Parent Child Centre will be celebrating it’s “Grand Opening”.

Parents of pre-school aged children, as well as parents of our K-Grade 3 students are invited to “drop in” to the centre from 7:00-8:30 on Tuesday or Thursday evening, to meet the centre staff, and to enter their names for a free “Welcome” draw. The following week, the centre will be open every Monday and Tuesday morning, as well as every Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.
