Code of Behaviour
We believe that all people have the right to emotional and physical safety and that these rights are accompanied by responsibilities. We believe that ultimately true discipline is self-discipline and to achieve that goal, responsibility is with the child, the teachers and the parents.
Students can expect that staff will:
- Treat them with courtesy, respect, consistency and fairness.
- Communicate information about student progress, attendance and behaviour to them, parents and administration.
- Treat all others in the school and community with dignity, respect and fairness.
- Be punctual.
- Clearly state course objectives and use a variety of teaching and assessment strategies.
- Provide lessons, assignments and tests that are clear and related to course objectives.
- Teach the Manitoba curriculum diligently and provide the programs and services prescribed by the Louis Riel School Division.
Staff can expect that students will:
- Attend school regularly and punctually.
- Be prepared for classes by bringing required materials and completed assignments.
- Complete work missed due to absence.
- Treat all others in the school and community with dignity, respect and fairness.
- Contribute creatively, productively and responsibly to Dakota Collegiate.
- Resolve their problems without violence or aggression.
- Show respect for school property and the personal property of others.
- Dress appropriately in a manner suitable for a work like atmosphere.
- Refrain from all use of drugs, alcohol or any controlled substances.
- Adhere to school policies respecting appropriate use of electronic mail and the Internet, including the prohibition of materials that the school has determined to be objectionable.
Parents can expect that:
- Teachers will teach the required Manitoba Education and Training Curriculum as well as provide the assigned programs and services using appropriate teaching methods and practices.
- The school will provide a positive learning environment which is orderly, safe, supportive and challenging.
- Staff will communicate with parents to address problems with respect to discipline, learning progress or attendance.
- Administration will provide leadership and support, and monitor instruction in the school.
- Students will receive fair and consistent treatment.
- The school will provide information concerning extra-curricular and out of school activities.
- Dakota Collegiate will not tolerate any use of drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, violence, or weapons.
Parents can be expected to:
- Encourage their son/daughter to:
- Work to the best of his/her ability
- Understand the importance of education
- Respect the rights of fellow students and staff
- Respect the property of others
- Support the school staff in promoting a safe, secure, non-threatening learning environment
- Dress appropriately
- Maintain regular communication with their son/daughter regarding school matters.
- Ensure that their son/daughter attends regularly and punctually.
- Attend their son/daughters school events and meetings and give constructive input to support the school.
- Maintain open communication with all staff.
- Provide the equipment their son/daughter needs for school/learning.
- Support the Louis Riel School Division’s policies regarding violence, weapons, alcohol, drugs and controlled substances.
