Principal's Bulletin
Friday October 31, 2008Well Into Another School YearWe are now settled into the 2008-2009 school year and we have had a very good start thanks in large part to you the parents and the support that you have given us. We started the new school year with a Welcome Assembly to welcome new staff and students to Collège Béliveau. This was followed by a Welcome Back BBQ put on by in part by our Leadership students and our very active Student Council.
Along with all the academic programs that are in full swing, many extra-curricular activities are also planned at this time. For example, our “peer-tutoring” has begun, the “homework club” for our grade 7 and 8 students is being held from Monday to Thursday, from 3:11 p.m. to 3:50 p.m. in the “Centre des Medias”. Our volunteer committee, consisting of a very dedicated group of students has already been out to help with a Cancer Care initiative, Children’s Wish Foundation and has many other volunteer opportunities planned for the coming school year. Volleyball season is also underway with 12 of our teams enjoying various levels of success, and learning that the key to that success is teamwork.
Important upcoming dates to note are:
Professional Development October 27th
Early dismissal October 28th
Take our Kids to Work Day November 5th
Remembrance Day Ceremonies November 10th (10:00 a.m.)
Remembrance Day November 11th (School closed)
Report cards sent home November 14th
Finally, we will be posting our school plan on the school WEB site in the coming weeks. Our priorities for the year include: continued implementation of the Divisional AER policy, assuring success for all of our students by implementing differentiated instruction strategies in all of our classrooms, full implementation of the grade 7 and 8 ICT curriculum, review our priorities and implement these changes with regards to our PEPs and Homerooms, and the creation of a school based committee of teachers, parents and students to continue with the implementation of our Division’s new Nutrition policy.
If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact the school at 255-3205 or at http://www.lrsd.net.
