Burland Outreach Program

Samuel Burland School has developed a reputation for supporting worthwhile organizations and building community spirit through benevolence. The following initiatives have become components of our Outreach Program:

• Terry Fox Week: During this week of planned activity, students collect change and pledges. Samuel Burland School has become well-known for its fundraising for the Terry Fox organization, and ranked third in the province for its efforts.

• Winnipeg Harvest: The school has established a close relationship with Winnipeg Harvest. Our food drives begin with our Thanksgiving Assembly, at which students reflect on giving thanks and helping others. Food is collected throughout the week of Thanksgiving, and presented to Winnipeg Harvest. In addition, we collect food at all concerts and school dances.

• Christmas Cheer Board: Each Christmas we pair classrooms with families registered with the Christmas Cheer Board. Students collect food and prepare hampers for distribution.
