About Us
École Henri-Bergeron is a Kindergarten to Grade 6 French Immersion school located in the heart of old St-Boniface in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Our location in the French quarter makes us ideally situated to take advantage of authentic opportunities for students to practise and use their second language skills. As the only French Immersion school in this community, École Henri-Bergeron draws its population from a relatively large area and yet still maintains a family-like atmosphere with a student population of 150 students. Responsive to the needs of our community, our school houses the Norwood French Immersion Preschool Program and Happiness Is before-and-after-school Program.
Following the amalgamation of the former Norwood and St-Boniface School Divisions in 1998, Queen Elizabeth School was renamed École Henri-Bergeron. The well-known radio and television announcer Henri Bergeron (1925-2000) was a native son of Manitoba, and the founding radio host for CKSB St-Boniface. He was known best as the host of "Les Beaux Dimanches," a popular CBC program which he presided over for 18 years. In addition, Bergeron authored four books between 1989 and 1998.
