June 2010

Reports for grades K-3 will be out as scheduled on June 29. Report cards for grades 4-8 will be out early on June 23 as those teachers will be leaving early in term to travel to Denver where they will be attending and presenting at an international technology conference. They will be presenting sessions on Archwood’s use of individual laptop computers in class.

For parents with students in K-7, when you get your report card, please contact the school immediately if you do not have a fall opening day conference appointment. Conferences will be on the afternoon and early evening of Wednesday, September 8. Students are expected to attend with you. Supply lists will also be enclosed with the reports. Also please contact us if that is missing as after June 30 there will be no office secretarial support until August 30.

We have all but completed our staffing for the next year. All the teaching positions are now filed. Finalizing the educational assistant staffing is all that remains. Unfortunately we will be saying good-bye to a number of staff from our Archwood team who have made a significant difference in the lives of their students this year, Ms. Drosdowech has accepted the Kindergarten position at a school cycling and walking distance from her home. Leaving on Maternity leave for the year are Mrs. Mager, Ms. Winters, Ms. Neufeld and Ms. Axent. (Mrs. Bruce and Mrs. Hay are extending their maternity leaves for this year.) The positions for Mr. Tayo-Jones, Ms Labiuk, and Ms. Balcaen are ending in June. We thank them for all they have contributed to the Archwood team and students this year. We will miss them very much and wish them all the best in their new endeavours or family time.

We are welcoming back Mrs. Pat Trottier and Mrs. Julie Douville to Archwood to cover Mrs. Mager’s student services maternity leave.  Their recent work here in student services will make for a very smooth and seamless transition. Mrs. Shubaly-Molnar will also be returning to our student services team.

Ms. Jenna Bernardin will be joining us as our new permanent Kindergarten teacher. Ms. Bernardin is currently teaching grade one. She also is not a new face top Archwood. As a student teacher in her final year, she had previously completed her practicum with Ms. Neufeld. Ms. Stephanie Timmerman, who is current completing her final practicum year with Mrs. Froese, will be joining us for the year to teach one of the two multi-age four-five-six classes. Mr. Thaddeus Bourassa, who is currently teaching a multi-age five-six class, will be joining us for the year to teach the other multi-age four-five-six. Welcome to Archwood.

If you can attend, we are hoping to see you at our year end celebration of learning on the morning of Thursday, June 24.

As this is the last newsletter of the year, on behalf of all the staff, I would like to wish you all a safe and happy summer. We look forward to the fall and the return of the students for a new year, and we offer best wishes to those students who will be moving away and to those who are moving on to the start their high school years.
