Hairstyling
The Hairstyling Program is a twelve-credit program which will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for all aspects of hair services for men and women. The program will provide students with theory, practice on mannequins, and on-the-job training on real clients in a new well-equipped salon facility. Students will be prepared for employment in the hairstyling industry.
Part 1 - 5 credits, offered in semesters 1 & 2, Part 2 - 5 credits, offered in semesters 1 & 2 (Part 1 is a prerequisite for Part 2), and Part 3 - 2 credits, offered in semesters 1 and 2 (Part 2 is a prerequisite for Part 3.) Start in September or February.
Prerequisites and Beneficial Skills
- High school students must have a complete Grade 10.
- Post-secondary students must have a complete Grade 12. Applicants not meeting the entrance requirements may be accepted as mature students. Skills assessment may be required.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Creative aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Enjoy working with the public.
Work Practicum
Students will have the opportunity to work with real clients over the course of their program in the school's salon and may complete a two-week, off-site work practicum.

Certification
ATC will award certificates to students who successfully complete requirements of this twelve-credit program. Hairstyling is a trade accredited by Manitoba Apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship and Employment Opportunities
The Hairstyling Program at ATC is accredited by Manitoba Apprenticeship under the trade of Hairstylist. To become an apprentice students must:
- successfully complete the Hairstyling Program at ATC (1400 hours)
- maintain a minimum 70% average in each unit of theory and practical
- have a completed Grade 12 high school standing or equivalent
- gain employment under the supervision of a journeyperson Hairstylist and register as apprentices.
During the two-year apprenticeship, a theory and practical exam will be administered by Manitoba Apprenticeship.
Students are eligible to begin a paid apprenticeship by working part-time while enrolled in the Hairstyling Program at ATC.
Students who wish to work in the trade are required to register into an Apprenticeship Agreement with their employer.
