Esthetics
This nine-credit program will provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for all aspects of nail care including manicures and pedicures, nail extensions, nail art and nail treatments as well as skin care including skin treatments, make-up artistry and hair removal. The program will provide students with theory and practical on-the-job training on mannequins and real clients in a new well-equipped salon facility.
Part 1 Nail Technology - 4 credits, offered in semester 1 or 2 (depending on enrolment). Part 2 Skin Care Technology - 5 credits offered in semester 2. (Part 1 is a prerequisite to Part 2 - exceptions may be made based on past certification.) Start in September or February (depending on enrolment).
Prerequisites and Beneficial Skills
- High school students must have a complete Grade 10.
- Post-secondary students must have a complete Grade 12. Applicants not meeting the entrance requirements may be accepted as mature students. Skills assessment may be required.
- Ability to work in a team environment.
- Creative aptitude and manual dexterity.
- Enjoy working with the public.
Work Practicum
Students will have the opportunity to work with real clients over the course of their program in the school’s salon and will not be required to work off-site.

Certification
ATC Certificates will be issued after successful completion of each part: Nail Technology for Part 1 and Esthetics for Part 2. Nail Technician and Esthetician are trades accredited by Manitoba Apprenticeship.
Apprenticeship and Employment Opportunities
The Esthetics program at ATC (Nail Technology and Skin Care Technology) is accredited by Manitoba Apprenticeship under the trade of Esthetician.
To become an apprentice in the trade of Nail Technician, students must:
- successfully complete Part 1 (Nail Technology - 470 hours) of the Esthetics program at ATC
- maintain a minimum 70% average in both theory and practical
- have a completed Grade 12 high school standing or equivalent
- gain employment under the supervision of a journeyperson Nail Technician and register as apprentices.
The Manitoba practical exam will be administered by ATC upon completion of Part 1 of the program. During the one-year apprenticeship, a theory exam will be administered by Manitoba Apprenticeship.
To become an apprentice in the trade of Esthetician, students must:
- successfully complete Part 1 (Nail Technology) and Part 2 (Skin Care Technology - 590 hours) of the Esthetics program at ATC
- maintain a minimum 70% average in both theory and practical
- have a completed Grade 12 high school standing or equivalent
- gain employment under the supervision of a journeyperson Esthetician and register as apprentices.
The Manitoba practical exam will be administered by ATC upon completion of Part 2 of the program. During the one-year apprenticeship, a theory exam will be administered by Manitoba Apprenticeship.
Students who wish to work in the trades of Nail Technician or Esthetician are required to register into an apprenticeship Agreement with their employer.
