Website Developer
Program Description
The Website Developer program exposes students to the New Media industry. Students are provided with a solid foundation for careers in website development or other computer-related fields.
Part 1 - 4 credits, offered in semester 1. Part 2 - 4 credits, offered in semester 1 or 2 (depending on enrolment). (Part 1 is normally a prerequisite for Part 2 - exceptions may be made based on past course work or experience). Start in September only.
Prerequisites and Beneficial Skills
- High school students must have a complete Grade 10.
- Post-secondary students must have a complete Grade 12. Applicants not meeting the entrance requirements may be accepted as mature students. Skills assessment may be required.
- Basic knowledge of Windows operating system.
- Good problem-solving skills and creative aptitude.
Work Practicum
The Project Management course provides students with the opportunity to work with real clients over a four-month period. Students will design and develop a website based on the client's requirements. Students will not be required to work off-site. Occasionally, students may be required to meet clients at their place of business.

Introduction to Web Authoring 30S (8947)
Essential Web page development skills are taught in this course. Students will learn to develop websites using Hypertext Markup Language by writing the code manually as well as using GUI authoring tools.

Advanced Web Authoring 40S (8397)
Students will create websites that can interact with databases for such things as storing member information, accessing catalogue items and implementing password protected sites.

Intermediate Web Authoring 40S (8964)
Non-programmers are introduced to basic programming concepts at the same depth as other programming languages such as C++ but using JavaScript in the context of the Internet and the World Wide Web.

Learn the concepts of image editing and create dynamic Web graphics including logos, buttons, rollovers, image swaps, animation and more. Students will design FLASH movies, page layouts and storyboards.

E-Business & Marketing 30S (1272)
Students will gain an understanding of basic business principles and learn business skills essential to the IT field. Emphasis is placed on entrepreneurship in the field of e-commerce.

Database Fundamentals 40S (8978)
Students will explore relational database principles, design and implement product catalogues and other databases that support e-commerce.

Fundamentals of Networking (8886)
This course uses the Cisco CCNA Exploration Network Fundamentals curriculum. This hands-on introduction to networking and Internet prepares students for continuing education and professional careers in IT.

Project Management 40S (8399)
Students will learn essential Project Management skills while working directly with a business client on a website development project. Students will assume roles of team members and will be responsible for managing all aspects of the project.

Certification
ATC will award certificates to students who successfully complete all eight courses while maintaining an overall average of 60%.
Articulation Agreements with Red River College (RRC)
Four out of eight courses in this program are recognized by RRC. Students must obtain a standing of 70% or higher in their ATC course to be eligible to receive credit for a RRC course as outlined.

Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW)
Certified Internet Webmaster (CIW) Foundation Exam is available to students upon completion of Part 2 of the program. This exam is required for all levels of CIW certification. This industry standard certification is recognized internationally and voted "Best Internet Certification" and one of "the most worthwhile investments".
