End of Year Celebration

This is an exciting time of year at ATC as students complete the ultimate final exam of their program – their work placement. The work placement provides students with the opportunity to apply what they have learned at ATC and to get that all important, initial experience onto their resumes. ATC teachers have partnerships with over 100 workplace hosts who provide the placements for students. It was a pleasure for ATC staff and students to express their appreciation to the workplace hosts at a luncheon on June 3rd.

In addition to providing work experience through a student work placement, most ATC programs operate as small businesses, with customers and clients from the community providing students with “real” work throughout the year. We are very appreciative of the community support that our programs receive. Programs, such as Hairstyling and Esthetics, can only be successful with a community clientele, so we wish to extend a special thanks to all those who have become clients of the ATC Salon.

As the 2009-10 school year comes to an end, it is our pleasure to congratulate students and their teachers on their many successes at ATC. Those successes include: completing a full program and earning a certificate, completing Part 1 of a program, positive feedback from a work placement, a job, an apprenticeship, earning a high school diploma or discovering something you are really good at or enjoy doing. Both students and their teachers can be very proud of these and the many other accomplishments this year.

In addition to individual accomplishments, ATC, as an educational institution, has many accomplishments to celebrate. These are outlined in the “Progress Report to the Community 2009-2010” in the June edition of ATC's newsletter and include the completion of a semester of the new Early Childhood Education Program which began in February 2010.

Students and staff are wishing an integral ATC staff member farewell this year. Our director, Mr. Robert Cordingley has inspired and touched the lives of many students over the course of his distinguished career. Mr. Cordingley always conveyed that he believed in each student as a valuable and capable individual and he worked towards creating opportunities for students to experience the successes that they sought. His contributions over the past six years at ATC are numerous. The introduction of several new programs is one of his many significant contributions in conjunction with establishing ATC as a leader in career and technical education. This great educator is wished all the best!

Wishing you all a safe and enjoyable summer!
