By all accounts Spring has finally arrived! The playground is drying out nicely and our students have donned their raincoats and rubber boots.

Spring also signals families and schools to begin thinking about the coming school year. We recently hosted our annual Kindergarten Information evening where we welcomed many new and returning families to an evening dedicated to taking a closer look at our Kindergarten Program.

We have also begun to receive requests from parents whose children currently attend other schools and who would like their child(ren) to attend Niakwa Place in the Fall. It is important for all community members to understand the Divisional process for the management of transfer requests.

Families who live or move out of the Niakwa Place School catchment area are required to complete a Parent Initiated Transfer form at their catchment school. If you are unsure about what your designated school is, this information can be found on the Louis Riel School Division website, under "School Locater". Parent Initiated Transfer forms must be signed and dated by the Principal of the designated school. Forms are available from February 1st until May 15th. Once the completed form has been received at the designated school it is forwarded to the Principal of the School of Choice. During May, Principals of elementary schools will review the requests received and based on the space available and identified needs of the classroom will make decisions about the acceptance of Parent Initiated Transfer requests.

It is important to note that once a Parent Initiated Transfer application has been approved, that student may remain at that school of choice for the balance of the grades offered. A new P.I.T. form is required when the student changes schools.

If you have any questions about the Parent Initiated Transfer Process please do not hesitate to call the school.

Take care and Happy Spring!
