March has arrived and with the promise of warmer weather comes the realisation that it is already time to begin the planning process for the 2010-11 school year. We meet with all Grade 9 to 11 students on March 2 to provide registration information. Students and parents are encouraged to access the 2010-11 Prospectus online. We have included valuable course information to guide students' elective course choices. Please remember that all students services advisors are willing to meet with students to answer any questions they may have.

We ask all students to complete the required forms along with the student fees and submit them to the office no later than Friday, March 5. Once we have processed the course requests, we will send a course confirmation letter home later in the month. The importance of this is to confirm that your child selected the right courses for him or her, to minimize the number of course change requests at the start of the new school year.

We invite parents of our new students (currently in Grade 8 feeder schools) to the CJS Open House on Tuesday, March 2. Elective courses and the benefits of CJS will be presented to parents. They will also have an opportunity to tour our facility and ask questions. Appropriate course selection is an important part of a successful high school experience.

CJS is also participating in LRSD's all-school initiative of supporting the Winnipeg Harvest. Operation Donation began on March 1 and will continue until March 5. In these uncertain economic times, it is important that we as a community support those who are in greater need. We ask all families to donate at least 2 items from Winnipeg Harvest's top 10 list.

March is also travel month for many students at CJS. Firstly on March 19 and 20, 50 plus students from Grades 9 to 12 will head off to Brandon to participate in the annual Jazz Festival. The following week, on March 24, 81 students and 10 teachers are leaving wintery Winnipeg for Paris and a tour of southern France. From the Champs Elysées to the Côte d'Azur, the 11 day trip to the home nation of "Français" promises to be exciting and unforgettable. Bon voyage!
