School Board Presents Draft Budget (Updated on 3/10/2010)

The Louis Riel School Board presented its Draft Budget for the 2010–2011 school year at a Public Meeting last evening. The attached edition of The Louis Riel School Board Highlighter provides details of the proposed Budget for the coming school year.

Guiding principles for the School Board’s Budget Development this year include:

Preserve the quality of education in Louis Riel
Respect the current economic climate
Reduce spending and minimize the impact on the classroom
Implement long-term cost controls
Plan for changing demographics, declining enrolment, and a moratorium on school closures

The School Board’s Draft Budget for 2010–2011 will not compel a tax increase. The Provincial Tax Incentive Grant of $5.144M ($639,284 more than last year) has provided the financial support necessary to ensure that the quality of education is maintained in LRSD.

The current proposed Budget is in draft form. Members of Louis Riel School Division Community have until March 8, 2010 to provide feedback or suggestions to the School Board. This can be done in writing c/o:

The School Board will approve its Final Budget at a Special Meeting that will be held on March 9, 2010 at 7:30 p.m. This meeting is open to the public and will be held at the LRSD Board Office at 900 St. Mary’s Road.
