School Bus Transportation: A Shared Responsibility

The Louis Riel School Division strives to provide safe, punctual and economical transportation and considers student safety paramount, but parental supervision is necessary to ensure utmost safety.

Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children to, from and at the school bus stop.

All noon-hour kindergarten bus students must be met/accompanied by a parent or guardian.

First - Time Riders

School bus safety doesn't start when a child gets on the bus, it starts at home. Parents/guardians, you are one of the most important contributors to children's safety and well-being when they explain and promote school bus safety at home. This complements the school bus safety program taught in all the schools for Grades K-6 students and builds a healthy respect for overall safety.

All first-time kindergarten/first grade students will receive a DVD, colouring book and “School Bus Safety Starts at Home” checklist, to prepare them for their first day. This package promotes positive and safe behaviour involving bus transportation. We encourage parents to study the package with their children, and to review it often. Practice and repetition are essential to any learning process.

Bus Cancellations

  • The School Division reserves the right to cancel or recall school buses based on inclement weather.
  • City-wide school bus service cancellation occurs when the combined temperature and wind chill is equal to or greater than -45°C.
  • Bus cancellations due to inclement weather will be posted on the Division's website and announced on both CJOB and CBC radio stations.
